Shear connectors in composite construction – the first CE labelled shear connectors worldwide

KÖCO in partnership with Cutmaster Machines UK Ltd have specialised in the manufacturing of shear connectors used in composite construction for decades.

Many customers have constantly asked for this, and we have delivered: KÖCO shear connectors now EC-conform!

As the first manufacturer of shear connectors worldwide, KÖCO has achieved CE-Conformity. Achieving this is KÖCO’s response to the continuous requests we’ve received from many of our customers.

With immediate effect, KÖCO shear connectors comply with the essential requirement of the Construction Products Directive (CPD89/106/EEC, amended by the Council Directive 93/68/EEC and the regulation (EC) No. 1882/2003).

Some advantages of composite construction with steel and concrete:

  • High loading capacity at low construction heights (important for building construction).
  • Usually the most cost-effective solution for bridges with spans ranging from 40 to 80m.
  • Large areas free from columns are possible due to the possibility of wide spans (important for multi-storey car parks).
  • The high ductility of the structure, favourable in the case of seismic stressors.
  • The simplicity of alteration to installations enabled by clamping connections fitted to the steel beams.
  • Good fire protection provision through encased steel beams or beams with concrete cores.
  • Quick assembly enabled, similar to 100% steel construction; this allows the steel skeleton to serve as a working platform.
  • Ease of dismantle – the steel and concrete are easy to separate.
  • Provides a secure connection between steel and concrete with the help of tested and certified, welded-on shear connectors.
